My trip from Redwoods to Yosemite was supposed to be a single day drive. It was roughly 521 miles and 9:52 minutes per Google Maps.
However, looking at my past average speed, mainly due to terrain, dog walks, gas stops, I knew it was going to be hard for me to make it all the way to Yosemite National Park before dark. Once I hit rush hour traffic in Sacramento I decided to pull over to find a place to spend the night. I use Allstays.com as my #1 source for map searches of places to spend the night.
I came up with Glory Hole Recreation Area. I don’t recall now, but think I paid $16 per night for a site right on the lake. Here are a few pictures on the evening I arrived there.
And here a few pics from next morning.
I was parked right next to the bathroom and was able to take a very nice and long HOT shower for 25 cents per minute. What was nice that I had the campground pretty much all to myself. There were maybe 4 – 5 other campers but they were not close enough to cross my path.
Overall a 5 star campground, considering the price, location, amenities and natural beauty. If I wouldn’t have already paid for reservation at Yosemite, I would have stayed for a few extra days and got my kayak out.
