I had absolutely no plans for Christmas. My family was 944 miles away in Chicago and I didn’t want to risk driving home and getting stuck in a snow storm like the year prior. FYI – I cant fly because my dog is too big.
I packed up a few things and drove south to Padre Island National Seashore for a week on the beach. It was the week of Christmas and during Trump’s government shut down. One of the campgrounds was closed off and the other one was completely full. The only option i had was to camp directly on the beach, which is only allowed for the first 5 of the 64 miles of beach.
The first night i got NO SLEEP. the entire night I kept watching for a tsunami or high tide 😂
After there was no tsunami on the first night I slept much better for the remainder of the trip.
I put up a tent so we can hang outside, but it was so loud and windy that it wasnt even enjoyable. So we walked around the beach and got our feet wet.
It was Aesop’s first time on the beach. He loved it!
Aesop was keeping a watchful eye on our surroundings at all times. he even spotted a deer behind our camper!!!
Overall we had a great time. If I had a car or a 4×4 vehicle i would take a drive all the way 64 miles or as far as I could go. I’ve read there are some amazing treasures down the beach
awesome!
thanks for doing all this advance work, i will absolutely be reading these again when i take that dream trip
I think I may have to spend my winter in Texas. Right now Corpus christi is my #1 destination, and Big Bend #2.
