This was such an unexpected fun trip. I booked a long weekend campsite there in September and came for the famous herd of Bison. I didn’t get to see the Bison unfortunately, but this was one of my ALL TIME FAVORITE hikes.

The color of the soil, the canyons, the red water and blue skies were just amazing.
The hike was almost 8 miles long and we almost didn’t make it in Texas heat, but we had no choice but to get back before dark. I think it took us 4-5 hours, mainly due to taking many water breaks. Some of the areas were very muddy, maybe it was just my experience because of my weight, but I was getting stuck in mud. Some places almost knee deep!!!

Of course Aesop loved it too! The trail was almost empty with water crossings and lots of things to sniff along the way.

This park is very highly recommended. Top 3 on my list of Texas State Parks for me!
